Zimbio quizzes are the devil

Random thought this evening:

I open my computer intending to do important things and then OH LOOK A ZIMBIO QUIZ.

LET’S FIND OUT WHAT BOY MEETS WORLD CHARACTER I WOULD BE.

OMG I’M TOPANGA.

#RIDICULOUS

Yes, I just used a hashtag in my own blog post which is even more ridiculous.

Maybe I would write more if I wasn’t so busy taking pointless quizzes to figure out what kind of potato chip I am.

I don’t know if that’s a real quiz or not but it should be. I would take it.

My 4 year old teenager

Yesterday I was fixing my 4 year old’s hair before preschool. I had pulled it up in a high pony tail with a nice little bow. She looked in the mirror and said, “I look ridiculous.” Of course, her “ridiculous” sounds like “dic-a-less” but I knew what she meant.

I laughed at her and brushed it off as a one time occurrence and sent her on her merry way to school.

This morning I was doing her hair again and was having to brush out several tangles. She kept complaining but I told her we needed to work through them, that just leaving the tangles alone would cause them to get worse. She said, “UGH. You are making me CRAZY.”

Who knew the teen years would arrive so soon????

In the closet

So around Halloween we moved in with my parents. My husband was wrapping up his immigration process (establishing permanent residency) and it was just the best thing for us at the time. More on that whole thing at another time because it’s going to need a post of its own.

Anyway, we wrapped up the whole immigration thing just before Christmas but decided to stick around until after the baby was born. Now begins the search for a place of our own. Anyway, to get to the point of this post:

At my parents, we live in the upstairs. There are three bedrooms (one for Jesus and I, one for Bella, and a nursery for Lottie), BUT then there is also this huge room off of the room Jesus and I are in that could be a bedroom if it had a window or a closet. It has basically just been made into a huge walk in closet or storage room. Right now, Jesus and I have a couch, a mini fridge, a microwave, our dressers from our old house, and both of our gigantic televisions in there. I’m telling you, this is a huge room. Anyway, it’s kind of our little cave, we go in there and hang out on the couch and watch television so that we aren’t all up in my parents business downstairs in their living room all the time. Bella hangs out in there watching Disney movies  or Netflix pretty frequently. However, we still refer to this room as the closet as kind of a joke I guess, as in: “I’m gonna go upstairs and watch tv in the closet.”

We’ve discovered that this has kind of been a mistake when it comes to Bella because I fear she is going to go out and tell random people or her teachers at school that we put her in a closet. For instance, the other day, Bella was tearing the house apart downstairs so I was trying to persuade her to come upstairs and chill out for a bit while watching  The Little Mermaid. She was in a bad mood and didn’t want to give in to my suggestions and instead wanted to continue to harass everyone downstairs and smack the dogs with pillows. I ended up having to carry her up the stairs while she was screaming, “NO. I DON’T WANT TO GO TO THE CLOSET!” Meanwhile, I was thinking: “Omg. She is going to tell someone about this and they are totally going to think I force her to watch tv in a REAL closet.” So now we are trying to make sure we call it the “upstairs living room”.

It doesn’t seem to be working so far. The other day I asked her where her father was and she said, “Daddy is in the closet.”

Books for tots

Bella and I read a lot. She always gets a story before bed and frequently we also do story time earlier in the day as well. Story time usually happens when Bella is acting a little wild and needs to calm down for a bit. I have her pick a few books off her shelf in her bedroom and then we lay down and read for about half an hour. We have a lot of books and I’m always adding to the collection so I decided that I would start sharing some of our favorites. Here are some of the books we are currently into:

 Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site

This one has been one of our favorites for awhile. It has pretty much been sitting on Bella’s nightstand (where she keeps the books she likes to often request for bedtime) since last Christmas when she got it. Each pages introduces a piece of construction equipment, explains what they do during the day, and shows them winding down and “going to sleep” for the evening. I like it because it rhymes and those are my favorite.

Love Monster

We just got this one shortly before Valentines Day. It’s about a funny looking monster that sets out on a search for someone to love after realizing that he doesn’t quite fit in a world full of cute and fluffy things. I probably like this one a little more than Bella does, but she still enjoys it.

What Does the Fox Say?

I’m not going to lie, I kinda hate reading this one simply because it’s so hard to read. The book isn’t anything other than the song lyrics in print, which, in my opinion, wasn’t the BEST idea but my child loves it so I really can’t complain. To give you an idea of what reading this to your child will be like, here is one of the pages:

AHHHHHHHH!

AHHHHHHHH!

Like I said, Bella really likes it so we keep it around but I try and keep the requests to read this one at a bare minimum.

That’s it for now, maybe in a few weeks I’ll do another one of these, as Bella and I have LOTS of favorites we would love to share. :)

Bella’s new favorite movies

My child has discovered two new movies lately.

The first one is the Wizard of Oz. She only watched it once when it came on tv like it always does around the holidays. Even though she only watched it that one time, she was mesmerized by it, specifically by the Wicked Witch. Whenever someone spills some water or any kind of liquid really, she starts shouting, “I’M MELTING! I’M MELTING!” It doesn’t matter where we are. She did it a few weeks ago while we were out to eat and terrified our server.

The other movie she has taken an interest in is Pixar’s UPShe’s watched this one about 50 million times so far. I don’t know what it is about the movie that makes her like it so much, maybe it’s the house being lifted by balloons or the talking dogs or maybe it’s just Kevin (the multicolored bird being hunted in Paradise Falls). Anyway, the quote that she has taken out of this movie is “SQUIRREL!” She will shout this randomly and loudly several times a day.

I sometimes wonder what strangers think about my child, but to be honest I don’t really care. She’s a little random and loud and weird, but then again, so am I.

Adjusting to 2

Getting used to having two children as opposed to one is an interesting experience. One of them is a newborn that wakes up every two to three hours and is this tiny fragile creature that still manages to make a great deal of noise and foul smells. My 4 year old, who up until two weeks ago I still viewed as a baby has suddenly transformed into this gigantic Goliath. Goliath Bella is also clearly having some adjustment and jealousy issues as she stomps, yells, and demands attention constantly.

Aside from that I have a cat that has suddenly taken to peeing on the gas logs in the fireplace and has consequently had some kind of pheromone calming collar added to his wardrobe. He seems to be sleeping a lot more than usual so maybe that means it’s working.

I also have a turtle that I’m quite sure is trying to commit suicide because he is refusing to eat, even when the food is placed directing in front of his face, he just shuts his eyes and defiantly turns his head to the side.

All in all, everyone in the house seems to be trying to adjust to this new tiny human, even the animals. We’ll get there, one day at a time.

Baby Number 2 Has Arrived

Well, I’ve been absent for awhile. I’m not going to lie, I couldn’t really find any inspiration to write anything for a bit because I was too busy hating pregnancy. I totally understand that there are some people out there that are struggling to get pregnant or can’t, that would have loved to have been in my position. Seriously, I really do get that, my heart goes out to those women and couples and I realize that I am very lucky to have gotten pregnant quickly and to have had a complication free pregnancy. I know that there are also some women out there that really love being pregnant. Well, I’m not one of them. It started in the first trimester with vicious all day (not just morning) sickness. Then it progressed to heartburn, back pain, shortness of breath, and inability to sleep. I was OVER. IT. But you know how they say that when the baby gets here, none of that really matters anymore? It’s totally true. On January 30, 2014 this happened:

Baby Lottie May, 6 lbs 11 oz

Baby Lottie May, 6 lbs 11 oz

And then, yeah, none of the pregnancy woes really mattered anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I remember them, but it was worth it.

So that’s it. I’m still around, and hopefully I’ll blog some while on maternity leave. Right now we’re trying to adjust to being a family of 4 and trying to get into some kind of groove. I’m trying to figure out this whole having two kids thing. I wouldn’t say it’s easy but I wouldn’t say it’s hard either. It’s just different, an adjustment. So, with that, I’ll leave you with a little more cuteness:
